چکیده

This document reviews the Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) protocol suite in the context of IPv6 and identifies gaps that must be addressed in order to allow MPLS-related protocols and applications to be used with IPv6-only networks. This document is intended to focus on gaps in the standards defining the MPLS suite, and is not intended to highlight particular vendor implementations (or lack thereof) in the context of IPv6-only MPLS functionality. In the data plane, MPLS fully supports IPv6, and MPLS labeled packets can be carried over IPv6 packets in a variety of encapsulations. However, support for IPv6 among MPLS control-plane protocols, MPLS applications, MPLS Operations, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM), and MIB modules is mixed, with some protocols having major gaps. For most major gaps, work is in progress to upgrade the relevant protocols. A Brief History of MPLS Usage in IPv6

Recent researches have stated the fast deployment of IPv6. It has been demonstrated that IPv6 grows much faster, being so more and more adopted by both Internet service providers but also by servers and end-hosts. In parallel, researches have been conducted to discover and assess the usage of MPLS tunnels. Indeed, recent developments in the ICMP protocol make certain categories of MPLS tunnels ...

Handover Operation in Mobile IP-over-MPLS Networks

This paper examines mobility operations, and particularly handovers in an environment, where Hierarchical Mobile IP is operating over MPLS. The work in this paper improves on existing methods of MIP-MPLS interworking first by defining a simple framework based on Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) and second by outlining the relevant protocol design assumptions. In addition, the combined protocol...

Performance Analysis of Traffic Engineering (TE) in IPv6 with IPv4 over Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS)

The emergence of next generation protocol (IPv6) and MPLS has been seen as technologies that will drive the next generation networks. Together with Traffic Engineering (TE), Quality of Service (QoS) requirements for high bandwidth consuming flows as well as optimization of network performance can be achieved. Traffic engineering delivers the traffic flows in a network without jamming and provid...

Using a Fuzzy Rule-based Algorithm to Improve Routing in MPLS Networks

Today, the use of wireless and intelligent networks are widely used in many fields such as information technology and networking. There are several types of these networks that MPLS networks are one of these types. However, in MPLS networks there are issues and problems in the design and implementation discussion, for example security, throughput, losses, power consumption and so on. Basically,...

Connecting IPv6 Islands over IPv4 MPLS Using IPv6 Provider Edge Routers (6PE)

This document explains how to interconnect IPv6 islands over a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)-enabled IPv4 cloud. This approach relies on IPv6 Provider Edge routers (6PE), which are Dual Stack in order to connect to IPv6 islands and to the MPLS core, which is only required to run IPv4 MPLS. The 6PE routers exchange the IPv6 reachability information transparently over the core using the Mu...
